Switzerland Visa Fees and Cost

In this article, we’ll talk about Switzerland visa fees and how much it’d cost for you to get a Swiss visa.

August 2018 saw the highest number of tourist arrivals in Switzerland, reaching a crazy 1,295,815! In May 2019, tourist arrivals grew 3.3%, representing a 5.1% increase from the April numbers, according to statistics published by the Census and Economic Information Center (CEIC).

Many factors make this country such a popular tourist destination, not the least of which is its natural beauty. Switzerland offers a whole lot of cultural diversity too, for such a small country. It is divided into three regions and has four official languages!

Of course, to be able to visit the home of the Alps, you first need to apply for a visa. The Uniform Schengen Visa allows tourists to visit any member country for up to 90 days over a period of 6 months. You are eligible to stay in Switzerland for 3 months under a short-stay visa. For a stay period longer than that, you will need to apply for a long-stay visa.

Switzerland Visa Fees

In order to get your application processed, you will be required to pay the visa fee. The fee has been jointly decided by the Schengen member countries and, therefore, remains the same until any changes are made by the Schengen states.

The visa fee for Switzerland is €60 per person. For applicants under 25 years of age, taking part in various seminars, educational events, conferences, sports or events hosted by non-profit organizations, the visa fee might be waived altogether. This depends on the relevance of the event.

In special cases, as mentioned below, the fee is reduced or not applicable at all:

A VFS charge of €17.52 needs to be paid along with the visa fee. Even if your visa fee is waived or you apply for a visa that does not require a fee to be paid, the VFS charge still needs to be paid. It is essential to keep in mind that these costs are not fixed and can change.

Also, you can pay the fee in your domestic currency, which means that the amount you pay will depend on the exchange rate at the time of payment. The payment can be made via cash, debit or credit card, or net banking in favor of the designated embassy. However, some consulates do not allow cash payments, so check before you pay.
